After that, we’ll dive into reverb workflows and show you how to use this powerful tool to add depth and richness to your mixes. Finally, we’ll explore some crucial steps you need to take to get your mixes ready for exporting and mastering.
Subgroups are a powerful tool in the world of music production. As you likely know from past courses, they can help you keep your tracks organized and streamlined. By grouping similar tracks together, you can apply various effects and processors to the entire group rather than spending time tweaking each individual track. You’ll learn the technique of adding the compressor throughout the mix (but never at the end).
When it comes to compression techniques in music production, there are a few different methods to choose from. Two popular options are bus compression and parallel compression. While bus compression involves grouping tracks to be routed through a single compressor, parallel compression takes a slightly different approach. Reverb is a crucial element in any good mix–by using two different reverbs, we can create a sense of depth and space within the stereo field.
It’s time to test your mix on other speakers. Note any inconsistencies that might crop up, like loud or quiet elements. If you do notice these differences, take the time to make the necessary changes. However, if you don’t hear anything unusual, then don’t try to tweak anything too much, unless it’s in a better room with superior monitoring equipment.
Mastering the track is just as important as mixing it. It’s the final step before releasing your masterpiece to the world. Even if you’re sending it off to another studio to master, it’s still essential that you know what to look for. And before finalizing, double-check the level of your master to ensure a clean, professional sound.
